Northeast Regional Medical Director, Addiction Services Psychiatry, Behavioral and Addiction Medicine
Addiction is a multifaceted and chronic disease requiring integrated resources to manage. The position is responsible for the development of inpatient addiction services in the northeast region of Geisinger’s service area including Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes Barre and Community Medical Center in Scranton. The role will begin as a medical stabilization unit and an inpatient and ED consult service and will grow with the development of program and services. This role will be expected to connect inpatient services with other regional services across the continuum of care of behavioral, medical, social, care management and addiction specialties to effectively improve outcomes. Geisinger is an integrated delivery system, bringing all of these resources to implement our vision to employ them in a manner that improves population level outcomes for patients with a substance use disorder. Becoming a member of the Geisinger addiction services team will provide an opportunity to lead and develop the programmatic development of addiction services. The position will report to Geisinger’s System Addiction Medicine Medical Director. Qualifications: BC/BE in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry or Family Medicine. Graduate of accredited Medical School with a current medical license for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and current Buprenorphine waiver for DEA. Must have at least the 100 patient capacity at the time of application.

Program Development. The Regional Medical Director of Addiction Services will be provided with dedicated time to identify needs and develop addiction programming. This included inpatient (acute care services, consult services, ED presence, and local partnerships), outpatient (further development of COE, other outpatient offerings) Academicsis a strong focus within Geisinger and we offer opportunities in the northeast to teach our Addiction Medicine Fellowship, Family Medicine residents, and psychiatry residents. Geisinger Wyoming Valley hospital is also conveniently located near the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton Pennsylvania; The Wilkes Barre and Scranton areas are also home to nine other colleges and universities. This role will also be expected to create education programs for other providers and be a leader in breaking down barriers and stigma around addiction, system wide, including education of clinical team at Center of Excellence sites. Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV), located in Wilkes-Barre, PA, is an acute care hospital that is licensed for 274 beds, and houses the only Level II Trauma center in Luzerne County. The campus includes the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, The Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Pediatric Unit, a transplant program and the Brain & Spine Tumor Institute. Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre is GWV’s ambulatory campus.
Geisinger Community Medical Center (G-CMC), located in Scranton, PA, is an acute care hospital licensed for 297 beds and houses the only Level II Trauma Center in Lackawanna County and Scranton’s only neurosurgery program and adult in-patient behavioral health unit. It is also home to comprehensive cardiovascular and orthopaedic services, as well as a broad range of other surgical and radiological services. The campus is affiliated with Geisinger-Mountain View Care Center, Scranton, PA, a 180-bed long term care facility.
