Henderson Hospital Henderson Hospital is a member of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals that provide care for patients throughout Southern Nevada and nearby communities. Located in the suburb of Henderson, the 120-bed hospital, which opened in 2016, offers emergency care, surgical services, including an ambulatory surgery center, cardiovascular care, women's health and maternity services. A level II neonatal intensive care unit is slated to open by late 2017. Job Description The Clinical Staff Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, patient counseling and teaching. Clinical Staff Pharmacists fill orders for medications, monitor patient's drug therapies and provide drug information. Essential Job Duties: Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately. Maintains accurate, complete pharmacy patient medication profiles. Maintains awareness of developments in pharmacy and healthcare that relate to job responsibilities and integrates them into their practice. Supports the pharmacy's pharmacoeconomic efforts. Reviews the use of targeted medications for compliance with current pharmacoeconomic programs. Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, adverse reactions and appropriateness of drug, dosage form, regimen route, and therapeutic duplications. Assists with pharmacokinetic consult service and drug dosing regimens per hospital protocol. Sustains the hospital drug formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection. Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Verifies the accuracy of all orders, IV admixtures and chemotherapy prepared by the technician. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy techs. Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternative to medical staff as needed. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law. Participates in continuing education programs, meeting, training programs and related activities. Participates in the quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department. Collects data, conducts inspections and maintains logs and other documentation as assigned. Participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education and training programs for the medical staff, nursing service, new employees and other hospital staff. Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, and fire and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
