The Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Minnesota is seeking a board certified/eligible Pediatric Infectious Disease physician at the Professor rank on an academic or master clinician track.
Position Highlights:
We seek an individual who is an outstanding physician, subspecialty trained in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and who is looking for a unique opportunity to participate in a strong academically oriented atmosphere, as a faculty member of the University of Minnesota Medical School. This position encompasses activities within the Department of Pediatrics in a dual role with the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the Global Pediatric Program. An additional role will be within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Equality as Associate Dean of DEI Medical Student Programs.
Specific duties include:
Within Pediatric Infectious Diseases: Clinical duties include serving as an attending physician for in-patients and out-patients services at M Health Masonic Children's Hospital and crescent organizations that include Gillette Children's Specialty Health and Hennepin Healthcare. Educational duties include fellows, residents, and medical students for formal teaching and mentorship as well as working with existing faculty to expand global health components. Research duties include continuing with existing research projects and growing new opportunities in infectious diseases and related areas.
Within the Global Pediatrics Program: Duties within the Global Pediatrics Program will include research and educational responsibilities. including creation of innovative curricula around international research and global health practice for a wide variety of learners including medical students, trainees, and faculty, mentorship of trainees and junior faculty in pediatric global health, and expand research opportunities for pediatric global health at UMN, including building a global pediatric ID fellowship.
Within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Work with other faculty and staff within ODEI to serve as an advocate and resource for students by taking a macroscopic view of student programs to create system change to optimize student futures, serve on appropriate committees as a voice for these efforts, and work directly with students for their individual futures as well as to assess environmental landscapes of the classes as a whole.
About the Divisions:
The vibrant Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, led by Dr. Jill Foster, includes faculty involved in a variety of clinical, educational, and research that span a wide spectrum of activities from bench research to clinical trials to health policy. Currently, there are eight Pediatric Infectious Diseases physicians and one PhD in the division. Additionally, there are two fellows in the program with both having an interest in pursuing careers in global health.
The Global Pediatrics Program began in 2005 within the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. The mission of the program is to improve the health and development of the world's most vulnerable children in partnership with health providers at home and abroad to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. To fulfill this mission the program focuses on education, research, and advocacy including a pediatric global health track engaging residents and fellows regionally including reservations in South Dakota and throughout the world including Uganda, Haiti, Nigeria, Tanzania, and India.
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a new program located in the Office of the Dean and led by its inaugural Vice-Dean of DEI, Dr. Ana Nunez is involved in all components of the Medical School to create system change through the medical school missions of research, clinical, and education. Components include the Center for Multicultural Education and Engagement, DEI Pipelines and Pathways, and the Center for Women in Science. Dr. Nunez also serves as the Chief Integration Strategist for the Clinical Translational Science Institute.
Departmental Unit Description:
The University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital opened in 2011 and has capacity for 207 patients and includes a full-service pediatric emergency department. The facility provides pediatric sub-specialty services to children from Minnesota and nationally with US News and World Report top ranked programs and faculty who are consistently featured as best of Minnesota.
The University of Minnesota's Department of Pediatrics has over 180 full-time faculty, a 100-year tradition of excellence in the medical care of children and in the enhancement of care through research and education. The University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital also houses some of the leading pediatric clinical programs in the country, including solid organ transplantation, blood and marrow transplants, cancer treatments and cardiovascular surgery.
The Department offers internal grants and funds educational, translational (bench top to clinical) and quality improvement projects. In addition, the Department offers all faculty educational topics for promotion and self-improvement.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited ACGME Pediatric residency and/or fellowship-training program.
- Board eligible/certified with the Pediatric Infectious Disease
- Licensed or ability to acquire medical license and DEA in the State of Minnesota, and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.
- Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of the VISA.
